Solvychegorod Historical and Art Museum
About the company:
Solvychegoda Historical and Art Museum was founded in May 1919. The initiator of the museum was the famous local historian I.I. Tomsky. The basis of the museum collection was the monuments of ancient Russian fine and decorative and applied art of the XVI – XVII centuries, stored in the Annunciation Cathedral – the house church of the Stroganov family.
The Annunciation Cathedral is a unique monument of Russian stone architecture of the second half of the XVI century. The summer church of the Annunciation Cathedral is a rare example of the ancient Russian interior, which has preserved its original decoration to this day: fresco paintings of 1597 – 1601, carved multi-tiered iconostasis, lighting devices of the XVI – XVII centuries. An integral part of the complex of the Annunciation Cathedral is the family tomb of the Stroganovs, built in 1826 at the expense of Count G. A. Stroganov. World-famous in the museum collection are the contributions of the Stroganov family – the works of “icon maids”, Stroganov workshops of facial sewing and masters of silver.
A significant place in the collections of the museum is occupied by products of folk masters of the Solvychegod region: clothes, hats, items of peasant life of the XVIII – early XX centuries. There are collections of handwritten and old printed books, written sources, photo archives; collections of Russian, Soviet painting and graphics, numismatics.
The museum complex includes the city estate of Solvychegoda merchants Khaminov, which presents fragments of the interior of the late XIX century. In the exhibition hall of the estate, exhibitions of objects of the museum collection and exhibits from private collections are regularly held.
In the memorial house of M.P. Kuzakova, the authentic atmosphere of the period of stay in Solvychegoda exile (1910-1911) of I.V. Dzhugashvili (Stalina) has been preserved.
Established in 1991, the school-workshop of folk crafts of the Solvychegod Historical and Art Museum is today a well-known center for the revival of traditional weaving.
