From Sortavala to Petrozavodsk: pomegranate mining, House of composers and wickets

On the way from Sortavala to Petrozavodsk in an interesting and fascinating form with visual materials, I will tell about the history of Karelia from ancient volcanoes to the present day, reveal the secrets and highlights of our republic, answer any questions. You will learn about ancient volcanoes, glaciers and Sami, the first inhabitants of our lands.
We will move along the beautiful serpentine of the A-121 Sortavala highway along the road along the shore of Lake Ladoga, the largest reservoir in Europe. Throughout the area of the bay you can find bays, skerries, trout farms and rocks.
Our first attraction along the route will be the Sortavala House of Composers, built in 1935 in the style of functionalism and neo-romanticism by the famous Finnish architect. It was here that the composition “Long will be Karelia to dream” was born, which we will listen to on the way.
The House itself is located on one of the most beautiful bays of Lake Ladoga Kirjavalahti, which in Finnish means “mixed, sparkling”. We will walk to the shore of Lake Ladoga and arrange a real photo shoot there. This is one of the most beautiful panoramic places of the republic.
Then we will pass such a settlement of Laskel, where we will see the Finnish hydroelectric power station on the Yanisjoki River, one of the small operating hydroelectric power plants of Karelia. It was built by the Finns in 1899 and supplied electricity to the paper mill.
Our next attraction along the route will be the well-known from the XVI century Kitel deposit of pomegranate (almandine), which tried to mine and the Swedes, and Finns, and Russians. These grenades belong to the Proterozoic period, and we will have special equipment for its extraction from mica rocks. As the saying goes, “you can’t easily take a fish out of the pond.”
Then we will move along the route among the northern taiga forest, plunge into Karelian culture, learn the difference between Karelian and Finnish languages, talk about the Kingdom of Sweden and the history of Russian-Finnish relations, when the territory of South Karelia changed hands.
Next we will stop at the cafe "SONA", which is about halfway along the Sortavala-Petrozavodsk highway. The cafe is located in the village of Kolatselga on the territory of my native Pryazhinsky national (Karelian) district. In the cafe you can not only drink delicious coffee with homemade Karelian pastries, but also have a tight lunch. The menu features the famous Karelian wicket cakes, fish dishes, as well as shungite ice cream, yes!
The next stop along the route is possible to choose from, there are 4 options:

- Karelian village of humor "Kindasovo".
- Nursery of Northern Sled Dogs "Husky Moa"
- husky nursery "Karjala park"
In 2016, Kinerma joined the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages and Towns of Russia, I call it Kizhi in Miniature. And yet, in this village filmed the film "Fire" with Konstantin Khabensky. We can just walk around the village, or we can take a tour from the locals, which is possible until 17 p.m.
The village of Kindasovo, famous as the most fun village in Russia, whose residents can tell funny stories and stories, is located 50 kilometers from Petrozavodsk.
The kennel of the northern sled dogs "Husky Moa" is unique in that the dogs participate in expeditions to the North Pole. Its founder is Viktor Simonov, a great friend of Fedor Konyukhov. There live husky, Chukotka and Taimyr sled, Malamutes and Samoyed dog.
The husky nursery "Karjala park" presents truly beautiful and powerful Siberian dogs, with which you can get acquainted closer, accompanied by an instructor.
Return to Petrozavodsk in the evening, satisfied and full of new knowledge, emotions and impressions.
