Surgut Art Museum
About the company:
Surgut Art Museum was founded on November 1, 1992. From the very beginning, the art museum did not fit into the framework of traditional, generally accepted ideas about the museum. Until 2001, when the museum did not have its own premises, he led a “nomadic” lifestyle – he kept the collections in commercial banks, moving from one to another, and carried out exhibition and educational projects on foreign sites. It is difficult to create a museum from scratch, but this has its advantages, because you can think in advance what kind of museum the city needs, in order to then purposefully move towards the implementation of the plan. Literally bit by bit, the museum collected and collected its funds, covering the period from ancient times and ending with the avant-garde search for modern artists. The museum managed to return unique collections of art bronzes - cultural monuments of Ugra of the Middle Ages, taken at different times after excavations from the Surgut district.
Currently, the museum collection includes collections of Russian fine art of the late XIX-early XX centuries, modern art of Siberia, national art of the peoples of the North, archaeological collections of the III-XV centuries, a collection of ironic art (graphics, photography and sculpture). Perhaps, the museum collection is not as representative as in the museums of Moscow and St. Petersburg, but, nevertheless, Surgut has something to be proud of.
Over the years, the museum has implemented a significant number of bright art projects, thanks to which it became known not only in the city, district and in Russia, but also abroad. Among the most successful projects of the museum is the exhibition: “The Light of Odin?” The story of an object", "Seeing the face of Tarn", "Open storage. A medium in bronze and metal. IX-XIV centuries, the International Forum of Visual Humor KARIKATURUM, the photo project "Inhabitants" and many, many others.
Today, the Surgut Art Museum is not only a treasury, where recognized and time-tested works of art are concentrated, but an exhibition complex, a leisure and educational center equipped with modern specialized equipment.
