Stefanovo Square
Syktyvkar, at the intersection of Communist Street and Lenin Street, Russia
Description:
Stefanovskaya Square is the main square of Syktyvkar, located in the historical center of the city. The square got its name in honor of the Stefanovsky Cathedral that was located here earlier.
The place under Stefanovskaya Square was determined initially - in the master plan of urban development, which was personally approved by the Russian Empress Catherine II. But the square received its name later - only in the middle of the 19th century, when the famous Stefanovsky Cathedral was built in its center. In the twentieth century, this temple was destroyed by the Soviet authorities, and the square was renamed Red. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the place was given its original name.
Today Stefanovskaya Square is one of the oldest places in the whole of Syktyvkar. And despite the fact that the square is not distinguished by special beauty, it has great historical significance, which attracts tourists.
