Izhemsky District Historical and Local Lore Museum

Resp. Komi, Izhemsky district, S. Izhma, str. Soviet, 17

About the company:

It all began with the fact that in the early 60s of the XX century, young local historians of the Izhemsk secondary school under the guidance of their teachers began to collect materials on the history of the village, the district. So the idea was to create a school museum.

Initially, the museum occupied two small rooms in the House of Pioneers, but soon, at the insistence of the public, a small house was given to the museum.

In 1965, according to the decision of the district council of deputies, a national museum was created in Izhma. It was headed by a teacher – I.F. Anufriev, who worked in the museum until 1970. From 1970 to 1975, I.A. Filippov worked in the museum, before that he was in charge of the Izhemsk library for many years. From 1983 to 1993, the museum was headed by N.K. Khatanzesky, a local historian, who worked as an editor of a district newspaper before retirement. By the decree of the head of the district administration since January 1993, the museum was transformed into the state district historical and local history museum. Director appointed T.I. Novikova.

Today, the Izhemsky District Museum is located in a two-storey building with a mezzanine, which is a monument of wooden architecture. In 1993, the museum received the status of state, and since 1998, with the receipt of a new building, the museum began a new stage of development.

The pride of the museum is the archaeological collection displaying the history of the life and development of an ancient man, donated to the museum by archaeologist V. Luzgin in the mid-60s of the twentieth century. A historical monument from this collection - a combat iron axe of the XI century - is a unique exhibit for these places.

The history of the Izhemsk region in the twentieth century is rich in events that are reflected in the exposition in chronological sequence with the help of documents and photo documents, exhibits and thematic interiors.
