Description:

The museum is a repository of scientific information obtained during the archaeological study of the territory of the Komi Republic and neighboring territories of the Arkhangelsk and Perm regions. Fund formation began in 1957 with the organization of systematic research in the region. The first archaeological exhibition was organized in 1967, and in 1985 a museum was opened. Currently, the construction of the exposition in the new premises is being completed. It reflects all the latest achievements in the study of the archaeology of the region. The sections of the exposition correspond to the archaeological periodization: the Stone Age (Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic), the Bronze Age, the Early Iron Age, the Middle Ages. The most important and interesting topics for visitors are the initial settlement of the region, the addition of archaeological cultures; migration of the population in antiquity, the history of the origin of the Komi peoples belonging to the Finno-Ugric language group, and the ancient Russian colonization of the region. Much attention is paid to the aspects of the interaction of ancient man and nature, the peculiarities of the adaptation processes in the northern latitudes of Europe. The works of ancient art reveal the complex organization of the spiritual world of ancient collectives of the European North.
