Since 1968 in the city of Syktyvkar there is a geological museum named after A.A. Chernov - the discoverer of the Pechora coal basin. A distinctive feature is the regional orientation (almost all the exhibits are collected by the staff of the Institute of Geology in the northeast of the European part of Russia). The museum funds consist of samples of fossil flora and fauna, minerals, ores of ferrous, non-ferrous and rare metals, fossil fuels and have great scientific, cultural and aesthetic value. The existing expositions electrified maps in the halls of minerals and gems allow you to give a visual idea of the geographical location of mineral raw materials and contribute to the creation of a holistic picture of the riches of the subsoil of the Komi Republic. The exposition consists of 7 halls: Minerals of the Komi Republic, Mineralogy, Lithology, Petrography, Development of Life on Earth, Gems, History of Geological Research in the Komi Republic. |
