Syzran

Now the administrative center of the Syzran district of the Samara region, and in the past the fortress on the site of the Syzran settlement, the city of Syzran has a rich history. Modern Syzran is a major center of the chemical and oil refining industry, but 325 years ago it was very different.
Our city was founded in the distant 1683 and was an impressive fortress, which was built on the site of the ancient Syzran settlement, dating from the 4th century BC. This fortress was located only 110 kilometers from another large city - Samara. Until 1796, the fortress was an important transit point for detachments, merchant carriages and other people, but in 1796 it was awarded the status of a city.
With the growth of scientific and technical progress from 1874 to 1898, 3 railways were carried out through Syzran, connecting 6 major cities - Moscow-Ryazan, Syzran-Vyazem and Batraki-Orenburg railways. Thus, at the end of the XIX century Syzran became an important railway junction in Russia.
Syzran is a major port city, as it is located on both banks of one of the largest rivers in Russia - the Volga. Due to the simultaneous contact with the railway and river navigation, Syzran became an important transshipment point for trade in various goods.
As for industry, until the end of the XIX century in Syzran was dominated by the flour milling industry, providing all the surrounding lands with first-class flour. After the Great October Revolution, industry in the city received rapid growth. In the 20-30s of the XX century, a number of large enterprises were built - GRES, Kashpir shale plant, Suran oil field and many others. During the war with fascist Germany, as well as in the post-war period, the city's industry gained momentum even more than in the pre-war years. By the way, it is worth noting that in 2008, on September 4, our city turned exactly 325 years old.
