Alexander I's Palace

Taganrog, 40 Greek Street

Description:

The Palace of Alexander the Great is one of the oldest architectural monuments of the city, known as the place of death of the Emperor. The building was built in 1816, was the state house of the mayor and served as a place for receiving distinguished guests. Before the emperor, Pushkin and General Raevsky stayed here.

Alexander I came to Taganrog, because doctors prescribed his wife, Eliaveta Alekseevna, to stay in the south. By the arrival of the emperor, the building was renovated, for which the mayor was allocated 25 thousand rubles.

The palace is a one-storey building, which was divided into several parts - rooms for Alexander I, rooms for the Empress, rooms for servants and a marching church.

After 1930, the building housed communal apartments, later - a children's sanatorium, now the palace is under reconstruction.
