Gorky Culture and Recreation Park in Taganrog
taganrog, Gorky Culture and Recreation Park
Description:
Gorky Park of Culture and Recreation is located in Taganrog on Petrivskaya Street. Initially, the park ensemble was called “Pharmacy Garden”. It was opened in 1806.
In 1806, with the filing of Baron Campenhauser, head of Taganrog, permission was obtained for the creation of the city garden. After some time, the engineer Sharzhinsky, who was a surveyor of the Rostov region, provided a plan for the Pharmacy Garden. Part of the plantations were intended for medicinal plants, and the other for planting vineyards, ornamental and fruit trees.
In a short time, alleys, paths, plantations and wells were created. The creators of the garden built special rooms for the overnight stay of guards, storage of tools, and planting plants.
A. P. Chekhov often wrote in his works and letters to his sister about the garden. In 1934, the Pharmacy Garden became Gorky Park. Several times he received the award “Best Park of Culture and Recreation”.
