Monument to Pushkin

Rostov region, Taganrog, Pushkin embankment

Description:

The monument to Pushkin was installed on the Pushkin embankment in 1986. The author is the people's artist Neroda. Thus, they decided to perpetuate the fact of visiting Taganrog by the great poet in 1820.

Alexander Sergeevich is depicted in natural growth, in a relaxed pose, clutching the manuscript of a new work in his hand.

Initially, the monument was installed on the Pushkin embankment in front of the entrance to the Stone Stairs, but after the expansion of the embankment was moved to the right, in the area of the yacht club. The place where the monument is now located was landscaped: benches were installed, lamps “under the old days”, instead of asphalt they put paving stones.

Alexander Pushkin visited Taganrog on June 5, 1820. From the memoirs of contemporaries, it is known that the poet walked a lot along the embankment, visited the oak grove of Dubka, went out to sea on a yacht and in the evening attended a dinner in his honor. There is a version that it was after visiting Dubkov that the poet wrote the famous “Oakland has green oak”.
