Rostov region, Taganrog, Petrovskaya str., 96 st. Greek, 105

Description:

Anton Pavlovich visited the library from the day of its opening (May 23, 1876) and did not neglect it with his care later, after moving to Moscow. Many books were sent to them in the following years, and in 1899 he was elected an honorary trustee. In 1904, after his death, the library was named after him.

In the 20s, thanks to the library, it was possible to save many books from abandoned estates.

During the Great Patriotic War, despite the occupation, library funds were not damaged, thanks to the heroic efforts of the library staff.

Now the Central City Public Library named after Chekhov has unique funds, which store valuable and rare publications, including from the personal libraries of Chekhov, Shcherbiny, Kukolnik and other famous writers.

In 2010, a new library building was commissioned, equipped with modern equipment, and the Electronic Library was opened on its basis. Visitors can also use the Internet and WiFi.

The Central City Public Library named after Chekhov became the center of intellectual leisure for citizens and guests of the city. Film festivals and book forums are held here, poetic and musical evenings are organized, art exhibitions are held.
