Chekhov Museum Complex

taganrog, 69 Chekhova Street.

About the company:

The Chekhov museum complex will include more than twenty objects connected by the name and work of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. The most important of them are the Chekhov House, the Chekhov Shop, the Literary Museum-Gymnasium and the monument to A.P. Chekhov.

The modest Chekhov House is the place where the Chekhov family lived for just over two years and where Anton Pavlovich was born. In 1960, a monument to Chekhov, the work of I.M. Rukovishnikov, was erected near this house. After the birth of Anton, the family moved to a more comfortable room - a two-storey house of merchant I. Moiseev - "Chekhov's Shop", where they lived from 1869 to 1874. In the building of the gymnasium, where the Literary Museum is now located, Chekhov studied from 1868 to 1879.

In Taganrog there are places associated with the heroes of the stories of A.P. Chekhov. Chief sanitary doctor of the city - P.M. Shedevi, whose house is located in Taganrog, served as a prototype of the hero of the story "Ionich". On the house of the inspector of the gymnasium A.F. Dyakonov, a sign is attached that says that a prototype of a man in a case once lived here.

In addition to these objects in the museum complex, you can also see the house of father A.P. Chekhov, the shop of Mitrofan – Chekhov’s uncle, the building of the Greek gymnasium where the Chekhov brothers studied, the house of Chekhov’s favorite teacher – F.P. Pokrovsky, who gave the writer the nickname “Antosha Chekhonte”, and other objects.
