Taganrog

Old station - Taganrog-2 station

Description:

The old station is the first railway station of Taganrog. It was built in 1869 by architect Zagoskin. Today there is a suburban station, from where trains leave to Rostov and Uspenskaya.

The building of the station was built in 1869 on the Fair Square near the barrier that marked the border of the city. The building is built of red brick without bas-reliefs and paintings. A distinctive feature of the facade is patterned masonry and windows of different heights. Thanks to these techniques, the building has an original appearance, it can not be confused with anything.

Directly in front of the old station building there is a monument designed to immortalize the feat of red railway workers during the civil war. They dispersed the locomotive, and at full speed sent to the station building, where the White Guards settled. The locomotive exploded, and in memory of the dead railway workers, a monument was erected - a steam locomotive of the same series, the UP-4504. Under his wheels, a piece of railway track, the front part disappeared in a fragment of a brick wall.
