Barjatino Manor
village of Baryatino, Tarussky district, Kaluga region
Description:
The estate of Baryatino, located near Tarusa, is the former estate of Prince Dmitry Gorchakov. At different times, the estate belonged to princes Golitsyn and Baryatinsky, but it acquired its highest prosperity with the last owner.
Gorchakov, together with his wife, visited England and Scotland, from where they brought unique paintings, porcelain, bronze, crystal, silver, ancient weapons, engravings, books and other objects of art. They put the whole collection in their estate, thus turning it into a “cultural corner”.
The collections of Gorchakov were nationalized after 1917: they went to the museums of Kaluga, the Hermitage, the Tretyakov Gallery.
Now the estate consists of the main house, church, manager's house, horse and cattle yards, forge and dam of the former pond.
