Tobolsk Drama Theatre

66, Tobolsk, Tyumen region, Russia

About the company:

Tobolsk Drama Theatre can rightfully be considered one of the oldest in Siberia. Mentions of his first performances date back to 1705. They are associated with the productions of scenes from biblical subjects, organized by Philotheus Leschinsky – the famous Metropolitan of Tobolsk. In the late 40s of the twentieth century, the corpse of the Tobolsk Drama Theatre became one of the most touring and popular groups in the country. In addition to major cultural centers, the theater often arranged special tours in remote areas of the Siberian "deep", acting as a kind of spiritual mediator between the folk traditions of the Tyumen region and modern culture.

The historical building of the theater deserves special attention, which, unfortunately, could not be preserved to our time. It was a monument of wooden architecture built in 1899. The building completely burned down in 1990. The fire also killed the theater museum, established in early 1985. Since January 2003, active search work has resumed to fill the museum funds.
