Alexander Chapel

City Park, Tobolsk, Russia

Description:

Alexander Chapel, located in Nizhny Posad, is historically associated with the House of Romanov. Tsesarevich Alexander Nikolaevich visited Tobolsk on June 2, 1837, he was settled in the Governor-General’s House, located on the Annunciation Square. It is here that the chapel is now located, it was built in memory of this visit. Its construction was first thought after the death of the Tsarevich, in order to hold memorial memorial services here. But the project compiled by local architects turned out to be quite bad, as a result of which it was transferred for revision to A. Porland, the architect who designed the St. Petersburg “Savior on Blood”.

Already in 1887, the construction was completed, and the chapel was consecrated. It has undergone several restorations, the last of which took place in 1992, after which there was a re-consecration, which was conducted by Hieromonk Vasily. The chapel is made in the form of a small tower with a square base, on its insular roof there is a dome with a gilded cross.
