Paraskeva Friday Church

Tobolsk, Tyumen region, Russia

Description:

One of the many cultural and architectural attractions of Tobolsk is the Church of Paraskeva Friday, located on the corner of Dzerzhinsky and Mir streets. It was built in 1754 at the expense of parishioners. The church is a “slender” two-storey building, on the western side of which there is a sufficiently developed transversely oriented prairie, made in the form of extensive chambers, over which the bell tower once towered.

In general, the temple gives the impression of a later construction, which anticipates the trends of classicism. The peculiarity of the top of the monastery lies in the triangular completions of the main four, which are mainly found in classical buildings. Therefore, the silhouette of the temple seems strict, not so pretentious. Simplification is also felt in the decor system of the building. The determining motive of the decoration of the walls are columned casings and pilasters with triangular pediments, in the lower floor of the monastery, echoes of the style of the XVII century are still noticeable. The building is currently used for commercial purposes.
