Ioanno-Vvedensky convent

Tyumen region., Tobolsk district, Priirtysh pos.

Description:

Ioanno-Vvedensky convent is located in a picturesque place between two mountains ten kilometers from the city of Tobolsk. The monastery was founded at the Atalik River by Archbishop Simeon in 1653. Initially, the monastery was male and in 1864 was converted to female. On its territory there was a complex of buildings, including several churches. In the thirties of the Soviet authorities, the monastery was closed, in its premises there was an orphanage, and later a military unit.

In 1998, the monastery was returned to the Orthodox diocese, and a convent was resumed there. Many of the monastery is still in a dilapidated state, but work is underway to restore the former beauty of the monastery.
