Church of the Cross

d. Tobolsk, K.Marksa Street, 54a.

Description:

The Holy Cross Church is an Orthodox church located near the bank of the Irtysh River.

Like many churches in Russia, this church has a complicated history. Previously, on the site of the modern church there was a wooden temple of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord. The temple was built in 1652. Almost 100 years later, the temple burned down and was rebuilt a little later. And near it began the construction of a two-storey stone Church of the Cross. The money for its construction was donated by parishioners, and local merchants of Medvedeva helped. The first floor of the Church of the Cross was consecrated in 1761. Ten years later, the second floor was consecrated. In 1784, its bell tower was completed.

In the parish of the Holy Cross Church there were four villages and the chapel of St. Alexander Nevsky. In the twenties of the last century, by the decision of the leadership, the church wanted to break.

The temple is currently in unsatisfactory condition. It was closed in 2004 for restoration work.
