Description:

The monument to S. U. Remezov is installed in the center of Sofia Square. It was made by the famous Russian sculptor and artist O. Komov in 1993. The sculpture cast from brass displays Semyon Ulyanovich, in whose hands is a scroll with a map of the area. It is located on a small granite pedestal with a memorial plate. The height of the monument is 3 meters, and the weight is about 1.2 tons.

Remezov was a cartographer of Siberia and a chronicler who lived in the late XVII and early XVIII centuries. He is the author of the famous “Short Siberian (Kungur) Chronicle”, which was published by the Archaeographic Commission in 1880. Remezov received his title “son of the boyar” in 1682 for diligence in the service, after which he was transferred to Tobolsk. He is the main designer of the Tobolsk Kremlin. He was given a very difficult task to unite all the buildings located on the Trinity Cape into a single military defense system, with which he coped perfectly.
