Monument to the Decembrists' wives

Tyumen region, Tobolsk

Description:

The wives of the Decembrists went down in history because they followed their husbands to Siberia and shared with them the fate of political exiled nobles who dared to rebel against the tsarist regime in Russia. Women who could not stand the hard trials of fate died and were buried in the Zavalny cemetery in Tobolsk.

In the thirties of the XIX century there were 15 Decembrists in the city. That is why a monument to faithful wives was put here. It was opened in 2008. The female figure in bronze symbolizes the civil feat and courage of women. The idea belongs to Permian sculptors. Among the Decembrists who lived in Tobolsk were Natalia Fonvizina and Polina Annenkova.
