Savior Church
Tobolsk, Tyumen region, Russia
Description:
One of the many attractions of Tobolsk is the wooden Spasskaya Church, built in 1587. In 1593, the exiled Ugric Bell was erected on the bell tower of the monastery, which notified the citizens of the death of Tsarevich Dmitry. At the end of the XVII century, the temple burned down, five years later it was restored, but it did not last long in its new appearance. In 1710, under Metropolitan Leschinsky, a new stone monastery was laid next to a wooden structure. In 1773 and 1792, two new chapels appeared at the temple - the southern and northern. The bell tower was rebuilt only in the middle of the XIX century.
In the church there is an image of the “Savior without hands”. This icon was sent to the city during the reign of the great Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich. Initially, it was in the Trinity Church, however, in 1791, after the latter was dismantled due to dilapidation, the icon was moved to the Savior Church. The length of the shrine is 1 yard, on top it is covered with a gilded rizza with a crown of pure gold.
