East Square Tower
Tobolsk, Tyumen region, Russia
Description:
The eastern square tower of Tobolsk dates from 1699, it was built by a brigade of masons under the direction of Gavril Tyutin. Its first tier is completely covered by a massive brick entrance, it is built on the side of the courtyard. Then the next floor will be flattened. The room on the second tier has four arched windows, above it is another floor with narrow loopholes, which served as a room for shooters. To enter each tier, a staircase located in the courtyard is used.
On the facade of the tower, each floor is highlighted by small brick cornices protruding from the walls. This building, most likely, was built for economic purposes, since the military could be placed only on the upper tier with loopholes. Also, the walls of the tower are laid out in two bricks – this is very little for a defensive structure.
