About the company:
Tobolsk State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve was founded in 1870. It was founded by the efforts of Ivan Nikolaevich Yushkov, an enthusiast and connoisseur of the history and ethnography of the region. He lived only 44 years, and the museum he created had 350 exhibits. At first, the museum was under the jurisdiction of the Provincial Statistical Committee and had no state support. However, in 1886, on the eve of the tricentenary of the foundation of the city of Tobolsk, it was decided to build a building for the museum. Now in this building there is an “Art Museum”. It was consecrated on September 25, 1888 and opened on April 10, 1889.
In those years, the museum consisted of five sections: natural-historical, ethnographic, archaeological, industrial and general education. The museum staff studied ethnography and ancient crafts of the Tobolsk province, and the museum took an active part in all-Russian and international exhibitions.
In 1890, the society "Tobolsk provincial Museum" was headed by the governor of the Tobolsk province of Troynitsky A. N. Since 1891, Nicholas II, then still a Tsarevich, takes over the patronage of the museum. Since 1893, the museum began to publish the Yearbook, which published research on history and local history. The last edition was published in 1918.
The museum has many expeditions to the North. Such prominent scientists as M. S. Znamensky, N. L. Skalozubov, A. A. Dunin-Gorkavych, L. E. Lugovsky, V. N. Pignatti, B. N. Gorodkov, N. A. Abramov, A. I. Sulotsky and others collaborated with him.
After the Revolution of 1917, since 1921, the museum became known as the Museum of the Tobolsk North, and since 1925 - moved to the building of the House of Bishops on the territory of the Tobolsk Kremlin.
In 1961, the museum became known as the State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve.
In 1995, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the Tobolsk State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve was included in the “List of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Federal Significance”. Since 2002, the museum has been holding the annual festival “Tobolsk Museum Meets Friends”. In 2003, the Yearbook of the Tobolsk Museum began to be published again.
