Ruble monument

Russia, Tomsk Region, Tomsk, Novo-Sobor Square

Description:

Another unusual monument in Tomsk is dedicated to the ordinary Russian ruble. It is made of wood and weighs about 250 kilograms. It is located on Novosobornaya Square on June 12, 2008. The installation of the monument was timed to the traditional Tomsk Carnival, which is held annually in the city. The organizers of the event and the media holding “Advertising Digest”, which took over the financing of the project, submitted an application to the Guinness Book of Records in the nomination “the largest wooden coin”.

The monument is made on a scale of 100:1 and in height is more than two meters. The ruble is made of an array of pine, and on top is covered with a special solution that protects the monument from moisture. Today, the monument is additionally placed in a transparent plastic box, because despite the considerable weight, there were repeated attempts to carry the ruble with them.
