Monument to Tomsk Students

New Cathedral Square, just east of the fountain, Tomsk, Russia

Description:

The urban environment of Tomsk is decorated with a variety of monuments. There is also a student monument among them. He appeared in the city in 2004.

Contrary to expectations, the sculptural composition is not a group of students. The dominant of the monument is Saint Tatiana, patroness of students. The elegant figure of a fragile woman is made by sculptors Nikolai and Anton Gnedykh. In addition to the female figure, the composition includes a marble column, on top of which stands an open book and two children sit. The monument looks good against the background of the square surrounding the square.

The connection of students with the name of St. Tatiana began in the 18th century, when on January 25, 1755, on the day of the Great Martyr Tatiana, Empress Elizabeth signed the Decree on the Establishment of a University and Two Gymnasiums in Moscow.
