Russian Federation, 634050, Tomsk, Lenina Avenue, 36.
Description:
The title of the first Russian university in Siberia belongs to Tomsk State University. It was founded in May 1878 in Tomsk by the decree of the Council of the Russian Empire and was included in the list of thirty-nine national universities.
The opening of the educational institution occurred 10 years after its foundation - in 1888, and it included only one faculty - medical.
The scientific library is as proud of the university as the famous Siberian Botanical Garden, which was established in 1880. In the second half of the XIX century it was customary to establish gardens at higher institutions. The first greenhouse was small, only 4 meters high, and heated by an oven.
Nowadays, the university includes 22 faculties, of which the law faculty is the most popular, and the smallest is the faculty of physical culture. About one hundred students who studied at TSU became members of RAMS and scientific academies of other countries, and more than 250 became laureates of the state award.
