Sunday church

ooh October Plaza, 10, Tomsk, Tomsk region, Russia

Description:

From the very beginning, the church was part of the Virgin-Dormition Monastery, which was closed in the 20s of the XVII century. The temple was built of wood. Over time, the building dilapidated, and then completely burned down as a result of a strong fire. And then, at the end of the XVIII century it was decided to rebuild. The next building of the temple was made of brick.

In 1807, it opened its doors for the first time. After 90 years, a huge 16-ton bell was hung in the belfry, but it was not his fate to sag for long. At the beginning of the XX century, during the Soviet era, all Orthodox churches were subject to ruin. The Sunday Church did not suffer this fate.

The Bolsheviks pulled out all the precious utensils from the monastery, and the bell was removed for melting. There were several attempts to reopen the church, but it did not open for long. In 1937, the temple and did want to demolish, but the building was left for government needs. So, in the 40s there was an archive of documents on the Far East.

The Sunday Church reopened in 1990. It had been restored for a long time before.
