Tomsk Regional Museum of Local History

Tomsk region, Tomsk, Lenin Avenue, 75

About the company:

Tomsk Regional Museum of Local Lore appeared in the city thanks to the initiative of the local intelligentsia. The idea of creating such a museum existed for a long time, but the revolutionary events of 1917 postponed it for several decades.

Initially, the city authorities allocated a place for the construction of a building for the Regional Siberian Scientific and Art Museum named after Alexander II, but soon changed their decision and the museum was decided to place in the old manor of gold miner I.D. Astashev. The museum was eventually called the Museum of Antiquities and Revolution. Gradually, the archives of museum funds began to receive a variety of materials from local artists, architects, university teachers, who collected bits scattered by the war and revolution items that had at least some artistic and historical value.

The first exposition in the museum was opened in 1922, and it was then that the museum received a name corresponding to the direction of its work. Today, the Tomsk Regional Museum of Local Lore in addition to exhibition activities is engaged in scientific and educational work. It is a methodical center of museum work for all museums of the region.
