Description: The museum was founded in 1915 on the initiative of the Totem branch of the Vologda Society for the Study of the Northern Territory. The museum has 3 departments: historical, artistic and nature. The Department of Nature occupies 7 halls with a total area of 195 square meters. It is represented by the exposition - the geological past of the region, the animal and flora, natural attractions, as well as rare and protected animals and birds placed in the dioramas "Deciduous", "Pine", "Spruce forests", "Meadows" and "Waterfields". The children's audience is happy to visit the nature department. The history of the Totem region is presented from ancient times to the beginning of the twentieth century. This is a military history, from the war of 1812 to the military events of the twentieth century. For the art department, a rich ethnographic material has been collected, as well as a large collection of folk art. The department presents the most interesting exhibitions: folk arts of the region (northern costume, artistic processing of fabric, wood carving, pottery, etc.), exhibitions of totem artists, merchant life of the XVIII-XIX centuries, Petrovsky craft school. The greatest interest among visitors is caused by exhibitions on folk art, painting, history of totem saltmaking, etc.
