The red hill of the Kulikovo Field is the place where, according to legend, the headquarters of the Mamai Temnik was located, where the banner of the victory of the Russian army was hoisted. The memorial on the Red Hill of the Kulikovo Fields is the oldest monument of military glory of Russia - a monument-column to Dmitry Donskoy and a temple-monument in the name of St. Sergius of Radonezh, built in 1913-1917 on the initiative of the Tula clergy. The obelisk, which immortalized the memory of the hero of the Battle of Kulikovo – Grand Duke of Moscow Dmitry Donskoy, authored by architect A.P. Bryullov, was solemnly opened on Red Hill on September 8, 1850. At the monument, it was planned to create a small museum, but this idea was not properly implemented in the XIX century. Near the monument were erected only guard rooms for retired soldiers, whose duties included the protection of the memorial. They were the first tour guides on Red Hill.
