The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding Soviet artist Porfiry Nikitich Krylov (1902-1990), Hero of Socialist Labor, a full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, People's Honourer of the USSR, laureate of Lenin and State Prizes of the USSR, honorary citizen of the hero city of Tula, one of the famous triad of cartoonists Kukryniks. Arriving in the spacious bright halls of the Museum of P.N. Krylov, you will not see caricatures and caricatures - here you will see the soul of the artist, his amazingly bright and poetic vision of the world, the ability to find beauty sometimes even in the most ordinary things. You will certainly be fascinated by the native landscapes of Russian nature, and the exotics of distant countries, and wonderful children’s portraits, and magnificent floral still lifes with their unique and unfading beauty. In total, the museum exhibits more than 250 paintings and watercolors of the master. P.N. Krylov Museum is also the Center for Children’s Aesthetic Education, it actively cooperates with schools and kindergartens of the city under the program of museum pedagogy. Museum staff developed cycles of classes and scenarios of museum holidays. In addition to annual holidays, there are holidays dedicated to memorable dates in Russian culture. A good tradition was the holding of annual Olympics in the history of fine arts, as well as local history for high school students. An important form of work of the museum is the program "The whole family - to the museum", aimed at uniting children and adults in acquaintance with the beautiful world of fine arts. |
The museum building is a typical building of the cinema, opened in 1962. After the decision to transform the cinema into a museum (1995) during the reconstruction, according to the project of Tula architect Pavel Zaitsev, the facade was supplemented by an extension, which gave the building a new, unique look. |
