The Star Cinema

embankment of Stepana Razin 1, Tver, Russia

About the company:

The building of the Zvezda cinema is the best monument of Soviet architecture in Tver. Built in the thirties of the XX century, it still does not lose popularity among local residents.

The Zvezda Cinema is currently the largest cinema in the Tver region. It is located in the very center of the city, on the banks of the Volga. The building was built in 1935-1937 by the Moscow architect V.P. Kalmykov and was an interesting example of the transitional style from constructivism to Stalinist neoclassicism. The main facade of the cinema is facing the Volga. Here is the central entrance, and on the sides there are two symmetrical round towers, cut through vertically stretched windows. The side facades of the Zvezda Cinema building are decorated with high, hexagonal columns in two floors. In the niches of the second floor there are a number of hexagonal windows.

The cinema has two halls: “blue” and “green”, each of them can accommodate 250 people. In the back rows, there are classic "kissing spaces": twin armchairs without separating armrests. In January 2010, the cinema opened a third hall with 44 seats, where 3D films are shown. Recently, a large screen appeared on the facade of the building, on which commercials are shown. It so organically fit into its architecture, placed exactly in size niche on the facade of the building that it seemed as if finally realized a long-standing idea of the architect.
