Tver Regional Academic Drama Theatre

ooh Soviet, 16, Tver, Tver region

About the company:

The Tver Regional Academic Drama Theatre was founded in 1745 at the Tver Theological Seminary. It was located in the building of the Tver Russian Diocesan School at the Fedorovsky Monastery on the island at the mouth of the Tymak and was there for almost thirty years. Then the theater moved to the building of the Public Assembly, and then to the Gostiny Dvor complex, where it gave performances together with graduates of the Moscow School, who formed a new composition of the theater troupe.

At the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century, several theater companies appeared in Tver, but as a result, during the reorganization of 1920-1926, all of them were attached to the theater. At the beginning of the war, the theater was evacuated to the city of Sovetsk and after the liberation of the city, the main building was destroyed.

The modern building of the regional academic drama theater was built in 1951. It was equipped with a new auditorium for 800 seats. Today, a branch of the Moscow Art Theatre Studio School has been created at the theater, and a museum also operates. It contains several hundred photographs, theatrical posters and programs of different times. There are even the earliest watercolor and oil sketches for performances, layouts of scenery and some theater costumes.
