“And above the river on a hilltop the spire of the bell tower, the church in crosses.” Kashin and Kalyazin. Sightseeing tour
Description:
I believe that it would not be an exaggeration to designate Kashin and Kalyazin as the spiritual centers of the Tver land. The first of them can be called the city of the holy noble princess Anna Kashinskaya, the second - the Monk Makari Kalyazinsky (founder of the famous Trinity Kalyazinsky monastery).
Each of these saints of all-Russian significance is not just the heavenly patron of his city, but actually about any of them locals can say: "this is our everything." As Kashin can not be imagined without Anna Kashinskaya, and Kalyazin without Makari Kalyazinsky.
In addition, both cities are connected by an invisible thread through the personality of Makari Kalyazinsky. Makariy was born near Kashin, tonsured as a monk in the Kashin Nikolaev Klobukov monastery, which he left for the foundation of a new monastery center, which became the core of a new settlement and in the 18th century received the status of a city.
Among the buildings of the Klobukov monastery Kashin undoubted interest are temple buildings of the 17th century - the Trinity Cathedral (unfortunately preserved fragmentary) and the Pokrovsky Gate Church. It is also impossible to pass by the wooden cell of St. Makari Kalyazinsky, restored to its former place in the chapel of St. Makari Kalyazinsky on the territory of the monastery several years ago.
In Kashin there are three monasteries that close the city in the triangle of the Holy Trinity. There were 33 temples, according to the number of years of Christ. Architecturally, they constituted the “heart” and the cross inscribed in it. The river Kashinka, on which the city is located, makes six curves within it, also resembling the shape of the heart.
The special spiritual symbolism of the place, the rare in its picturesque natural surroundings give Kashin some peculiar exquisite charm of the Russian provincial city with its unique ideas of beauty.
And all this permeates the holy image of Anna Kashinskaya. Her relics are located in the majestic five-domed church of the Ascension of the Lord (1799), and a monument to her is at the largest temple building in the Tver region - the Ascension Cathedral (1817).
A special flavor of a small Russian city breathes the square near the shopping arcades (late 19th - early 20th century). The traditions of the ancient merchant city are continued by the enterprises of the city - the group of companies "Veresk" and OJSC "Era", whose shops are located here nearby.
If you wish, you can visit a private porridge museum with excursions, tastings and master classes offered here. The idea for its creation was suggested by poems from the old estate album of the Kashin nobles: “They came here to porridge, they told us in the old days. It was eaten in the squares - called Kashin because ...
It is impossible to ignore the Kashin brand - sources of mineral water, which, according to oral legends, were the first to draw the attention of pilgrims who came to the city to worship the Holy Princess Anna Kashinskaya. In 1884, a sanatorium was founded on their basis, which gave Kashin the status of a resort city, the only one in the Tver region.
At 27 km. from Kashin on the banks of the Volga, rather than the Uchlich reservoir, Kalyazin is located. The water expanses of the reservoir, which emerged from their banks during the flooding of the Puda and Toad rivers, give the city some fantastic flair of the underwater kingdom.
This is facilitated by the bell tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral on a small island in the middle of the water surface (all that remains of the commercial square of the city and the surrounding quarters) and the so-called monastic islands, marking the place where the famous Trinity Makariev Monastery was once.
Most of the architectural monuments and historical buildings of the city were under water. Outside the flood zone of the Uchlich HPP, in fact, there was only Lenin Street (formerly Tverskaya) with the houses of the 19th century preserved on it. And also the Ascension Church (1783) with the relics of Makari Kalyazinsky and in front of it a monument to the victory of M. V. Skopin-Shuysky over the Polish-Lithuanian army of Jan Sapiega in the battle of Kalyazin.
