Tver

A Contrast Journey from Kalinin to Tver

Description:

Imperial Travel Palace and Morozovsky Town

This tour is an amazing journey in time and space.

We will start with Stepan Razin embankment. We will admire the ancient city, about which Catherine II wrote: "... Tver after St. Petersburg is the most beautiful city."

Then we are waiting for the Imperial Route Palace, built in 1766, in the classical style with Baroque elements, and designed for the rest of the reigning persons on the way from St. Petersburg to Moscow. You will admire the magnificent interiors of the luxurious palace with a stunning collection of furniture and masterpieces of decorative and applied art of the time of Empress Catherine II and a magnificent collection of paintings of the Art Gallery, among which is a unique collection of paintings by Venetsianov and his students.

And then the change of scenery...

Morozovsky town, nowadays - just Proletarka. One of the first factory settlements in Russia. It was designed by such architectural stars as Erichson and Tersky for 14,000 workers of the Tver Manufactory of Morozov merchants. The complex consists of more than 50 buildings. At the moment, they are not experiencing their best times, but this has its own flavor. You will see the buildings of 3-5-storey red-brick barracks, including the famous barracks "Paris" in the style of pseudo-Gothic. Even the brick from which they are built is unusual, "Morozov". We will talk about the Tver Frosts, their broad philanthropy - on the one hand, and tough management methods - on the other.

You will see how the city is slowly approaching the isolated world of the Morozovsky town. Glamour displaces the proletariat. But today, the two worlds still exist in parallel. Don't miss the moment...
