Rzhev - a memorial to our memory

Description:

Our tour of the war. More specifically, her two episodes. And about two cities - Kalinin and Rzhev, which became cities of Military Glory. Our story is about the boundless courage, perseverance and heroism of the Soviet soldier. The soldier, who near Rzhev for the 75th anniversary of the Victory created a national memorial.

It's not easy here. Here are three quotes that no one disputes:

1. For the Soviet military command, the Kalinin operational direction was a complete surprise. ("On the right flank of the Battle of Moscow", compiler M. Ya. Maistrovskiy).

2. In the autumn of 1941, Rzhev without a fight allowed the German troops to Moscow and Kalinin. The capture of Kalinin (the regional center) by German troops could not have been if the enemy's motorized formations had been stopped at the Rzhev-Zubtsov line. The task of the commander of the 29th army was set by Konev I. S., but was not fulfilled for a subjective reason. This historical fact is generally known and does not require proof. ?
(M. D. Khetchikov, Truth Against Fiction).

3. On the night of January 11, 1942, the commander of the Kalinin Front, Major-General Konev, received order No. 170007. Within 11 and in no case later than 12 January to take possession of Rzhev. The rate recommends for this purpose to use the existing in the area artillery, mortar, air forces. And Stalin. ?
The execution of this order was delayed for 14 months.

Rzhev is a city that rose from the ashes, Memorial to our memory:

  • Eternal flame on the Cathedral Mountain, with which the whole city is visible;
  • Alley of Heroes;
  • Unique diorama "Fight for Rzhev September 24, 1942" in the museum;
  • A village house that survived the war near Rzhev. Stalin spent the night here during his only trip to the front.
  • The figure of the Soviet soldier of the new memorial of memory

But in 2002, the park “Peace and Reconciliation” was opened on the outskirts of Rzhev. It consists of 2 parts - Russian and German. The memorial cemetery of Soviet soldiers is adjacent to the German prefabricated cemetery. Now they lie peacefully next to each other... The Germans have a laconic Catholic cross behind a black fence. The Russians have a snow-white, light-filled chapel and a red brick Kremlin wall – a symbol of Moscow, which they saved here at the cost of their lives.
