Here the great past seems to breathe in oblivion. Old man and neighborhood
Description:
What is it to me, Old Man? These are, first of all, ancient earthen ramparts breathing with antiquity, some special energy indescribable by words on the site of the Old and New Fortifications, which offer an amazing view of the picturesque curves of the Volga, lost in the haze of bright blue-green distances.
A grandiose, amazing for a small city in its scale and monumentality, the ensemble of classical architecture of the Borisoglebsky Cathedral (1808-1820) with the church-bell tower of the Savior of the Hand-made Image (1827). Very picturesque, evoking my association with Kitezh-grad on Svetloyar Lake Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God (Paraskeva Friday at the Trade) (1750) on the very bank of the Volga. And of course (as without it) some sugar-white-gingerbread-golden “town” (complex of buildings) of the Holy Assumption Monastery on the opposite bank.
One of the oldest monasteries in Russia, the Holy Dormition Monastery (founded in the XII century) with its claim to the metropolitan sophistication and Moscow shine by the temple architecture of Uspensky (1530s) and the Trinity Cathedral (1819), the tent of Vvedenskaya (1569-1584) and the former gateway of John the Theologian (1694) by churches, as well as a sculptural monument to the first Russian Patriarch Job, a bell tower above the place of his burial, serving the original place of the cathedral, which is impossible to see with the old priests of the city (the priesthood) and the main place, where the priests of the old priests of the city, and the old priests of the city, who are not the old priests of the old people.
Of the sights that are worth seeing, I would also like to designate a rare, in its kind a unique monument - the old forges (18-19 centuries) - initially fifty (six have survived to our time) forges with decorated white-stone blocks with arched facades at the base of the ramparts of the former New settlement. And also two houses of the merchant Filippov. In one of them at the January balls of 1829 there was “our everything” – Alexander Sergeevich (Pushkin was friends with the families of the old landowners Osipov-Wulf). In another he stayed during his visit to Staritsa in 1824 Emperor Alexander I.
I can also recommend a visit to the Staritsky Museum. Of all the regional local history museums of the Tver region, in my opinion, stand out for their “face with an uncommon expression” – Kimr, Vyshnevolotsky and Staritsky museums. The latter is located in a new specially built, spacious, perfectly equipped for museum purposes building.
