Antoniev Krasnoholm Monastery
Sloboda village, Krasnokholmsky district, Tver region
Description:
The history of this monastery is rich in details. Its existence begins with the XIV century, when the monastery construction was in many corners of the Russian land. In the Tver region, Bezhetsky Upper was sent Elder Anthony. He asked the boyars permission to build a monastery in their region. Good was received and in 1461 the first wooden temple of Nikola was built.
A few years later, on generous donations, the monastery decided to make brick. Unfortunately, Antony did not live to see the construction completed. At the beginning of the XV century, Antoniev Krasnokholmsky Monastery was one of the few who had such an expensive and high-quality building. Even Moscow monasteries could not boast of this.
In 1930 the monastery was brutally looted. All the church utensils were removed, and the walls were noticeably damaged. But overall, the building is still beautiful with its arches, cornices, cross vaults.
