Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker

village Papino, Kimr district, Tver region

Description:

The Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker in Papino, perhaps the most unexplored Tver church. Nothing about it has been preserved either in the chronicles or in the history of Orthodox textbooks. Only the date of its occurrence is known - 1825. It is a small three-chaired building made of white stone. There's a bell tower on the roof.

The church used to have a parish school for rural children. Under Soviet rule, neither the school nor the church worked. As well as all churches in the 30s was ruined, but by the end of the XX century it resumed its activities, bit by bit, with the help of parishioners collecting Orthodox church utensils.

Today, the church is still open, but needs a major renovation.
