Square of Chernobyl heroes in the city of Tver
Description:
The Square of Chernobyl Heroes is a square located in the right-bank part of the city of Tver, in the Central District. On the territory of the square there is a monument to the "Liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster 1986-1990". Nearby there are such sights of Tver as the Church of the Transfiguration of the Roman Catholic Church, the Tver Cathedral Mosque and the Tverskaya Hotel (also known as "Ryumka").
The monument to the Liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster 1986-1990 was opened on October 21, 2006. It depicts a man who, with his arms outstretched, protects the world from alpha and beta radiation. The memorial is made of black marble and bronze in black and yellow tones.
The square did not have a name for a long time, but in April 2008 the current name was announced in order to perpetuate the feat of the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster.
