Monument to I.A. Krylov
Description:
The famous Russian fabulist I. A. Krylov lived in Tver for about nine years. In August 1959, a monument was opened in his honor, which became the second in Russia. The first is in the Summer Garden of St. Petersburg. In the center of the composition there is a 4-meter bronze massive figure of the writer, and on the sides, appearing slightly ahead, there are two large cubes with high reliefs that depict the heroes of the famous Krylov fables. The author of the statue of the fabulous painter is the great sculptor S. D. Shaposhnikov, and the reliefs were created by D. V. Gorsov - a sculptor-animalist, and N. B. Donskoy - an outstanding architect.
The monument is located on a semicircular platform with magnificent granite benches. Its wide two-stage gatherings connect to the lower terrace. This place attracts many local residents and guests of the city who want to honor the memory of the great creator and get acquainted with the reliefs of their favorite fables, such as “The Wolf and the Crane”, “The Crow and the Fox”, “The Lion and the Wolf”, “The Quartet”. Every year on the birthday of the writer, various cultural events are held here, in which talented people of the city participate.
