Monument to Lenin

The monument to Vladimir Ilyich Lenin in the form of a bronze figure of the leader on the pedestal of the sculptor S. D. Mercurov was opened in 1926, destroyed by German artillery during the German occupation of the city at the end of 1941. After the liberation of the city, S.D. Merkurov promised to restore the bronze bust of Lenin and gave the city a temporary concrete figure of Lenin, which was installed on the preserved pedestal in December 1942. The bronze figure of Lenin was restored by the disciples of S. D. Mercurov – the sculptors P. V. Barkov and V. P. Koenig, and was installed in its former place in 1959, after his death.
