The Lord’s Prayer for the Holy Spirit

Russia, Tver region, Toropetsky district, Vorontsovo

Description:

In the beautiful place of Vorontsovo in 1898, two sisters-nobles decided to donate land and money to create a female monastic monastery. With the blessing of John of Kronstadt, the creation of a monastery community began. Later, the first wooden buildings were built, the house church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was consecrated.

After the death of John of Kronstadt, they decided to erect a five-domed Annunciation Cathedral in memory of the great righteous man of Russia. The building was built about the project of architect N.N. Nikonov for charitable donations. From Moscow were brought granite slabs, crosses and iron window frames. Approximately in 1919, the consecration of the temple took place.

In 1925, the monastery was closed, and church utensils and icons of temples were removed. At first, the cathedral was used as a granary, and then completely forgotten in the wilderness. Only since 2001, large-scale restoration work began, and in 2003 the Annunciation Cathedral was awarded the status of an architectural monument of federal significance. At present, the roof and windows have been restored for voluntary donations, and a new heating system has been installed.
