Description:

Tver Cathedral Mosque is a magnificent Muslim prayer house, built according to the project of the famous architect B.G. Polyak in 1906. The temple is made in the New British style, the height of its minaret is 16.5 meters. All members of the Muslim community actively collected funds for the construction of the mosque, but most of the expenses were assumed by the Tatar Fatikh Alyshev, a native of the wealthy peasants of the Ryazan province. The solemn opening of the temple took place in October 1906 in the month of Ramadan, it was attended by local authorities, namely, the mayor, the Tver governor and the head of the Tver garrison.

During the Soviet rule, the Tver Cathedral Mosque was closed and handed over to the Kalinin City Executive Committee, which used its building as a warehouse and cafe. In January 1992, the destroyed mosque was returned to the Muslim community. Its repairs began only in 2008. About 3.5 million rubles were allocated for the restoration of the Muslim temple from the city budget, which allowed to put in order the entire considerable territory of the complex, as well as strengthen the foundation of the main cathedral mosque and update its gilding.
