Ascension Orshin Monastery

171313 Kablukovo, Kalininsky district, Tver region

Description:

Orshin Ascension Monastery is a female Orthodox monastery located on the banks of the Orsha River. Due to repeated devastation during the Polish-Lithuanian occupation, the exact date of construction of the monastery is unknown, presumably it refers to the XV century.

Since its foundation, the monastery was male, but in 1903, due to the small number of inhabitants, it was transformed into a female one. In 1919, the monastery was again ruined, this time by the Bolsheviks: most of the stone structures were destroyed, a granary was arranged in the cathedral. In 1992, through the efforts of the nuns, the monastery began to be revived, inhabitants appeared, and constructions were restored.

To this day preserved: the cathedral of the monastery, one of the oldest in the Tver region, walls and towers of the fence of the XIX century, the abbot of the XIX century and the gate.
