Vyshnevolotsky reservoir
Description:
Vyshnevolotsky Reservoir is one of the numerous natural attractions of the Tver region, located slightly west of the city of Vyshny Volochek. The reservoir was created by the famous hydraulic engineer M.I. Serdyukov in order to maintain the navigable level in the Vyshnevolotsky water system. It occupies the central part of the district, from here begins its 188-kilometer journey to the Volga River Tvertsa. Vyshnevolotsky reservoir was formed in the XVIII century in the valleys of the Tsna and Shlin rivers. In 1951, the structures creating the support of the reservoir were reconstructed.
The water level here varies within 3 meters. The reservoir is used for water transport, water supply, energy, fisheries and rafting. Every year there is seasonal regulation of runoff. Today, the Vyshnevolotsk Reservoir is an important reserve source for the Moscow Canal and the Tverts Rivers.
