Tver region, Kalininsky M.O., D. Novelty

About the company:

The museum in the village of Novinki of the Tver region was opened to visitors in 1974. The exposition of the museum is devoted to the revolutionary struggle, the activities of the Soviet of Peasants' Deputies, the victory of Soviet power and the current days of the region.

The museum is located in a wooden five-walled hut, which housed the volost government, and in 1905 the first Soviet of Peasants' Deputies in Russia was founded. Nearby, the premises of an ancient Russian bathhouse have been preserved, where the underground printing house of the Tver Committee of the RSDLP has been recreated. The exposition is deployed in three halls. It presents materials that tell about the socio-economic development of the Tver district in the period after the reform of 1861, the development of peasant crafts. Many peasants of Novinsk volost went to work in Tver and

St. Petersburg, where they were involved in revolutionary activities, and when they returned to the countryside they carried leaflets and proclamations. Novinskaya parish was considered the most revolutionary in the Tver province.

The first Soviet of Peasants’ Deputies was established in November 1905. Documents, photographs, personal belongings of the deputies, the recollections of eyewitnesses clearly show how the work of the Council was carried out in the most turbulent days of the revolution. After the suppression of the uprising in Tver, a wave of arrests swept in the Novinskaya volost. From this time, hand and foot shackles from the Allegon Transfer Prison, as well as documents and materials exposing the cruelty and lawlessness of the tsarist authorities, have been preserved and exposed.
