Tver river station
Description:
The River Station building of 1938, built in the style of Stalinist neoclassicism, is the main attraction of modern Tver. Previously, the Otroch monastery was located here, which now resembles the miraculously preserved Assumption Cathedral.
In the center of the building there is a two-storey rotunda, surrounded by columns and topped with a belvedere, on which the spire rises. Previously, the belvedere housed a restaurant, the spire was a lighthouse. On the first floor of the rotunda there was a large lobby, the second floor was occupied by waiting rooms and rest rooms. Side wings were set aside for office spaces. The station could accommodate up to 550 people at the same time.
Since 1997, the building of the Tver River Station has received the status of an architectural monument, for its purpose it has not been used for a long time. In 2011, the Center for Contemporary Art “Tverets” opened here, the financing of which was later suspended.
